An exciting opportunity has opened with nbn to join the team as a Lead System Engineer (LDE) which reports directly to our System Engineering Manager. You will be joining a versatile team dynamic, that is responsible for delivering and supporting IT changes related to in-house and commercial applications.
The ideal candidate will have Engineering, DevOps, Continuous Integration / Deployment, Test Automation practice, and people leadership skills, to support a small team of 6 to 12 Software Engineers.
A bit about your role
As the LDE, you will create and maintain an inclusive and high-performing culture, where agile software engineering practices are adopted and continue to evolve alongside industry standards. You will effectively mentor a team to ensure the continuous and efficient delivery of high-quality products and services to all stakeholders.

Possessing a curious mind for cutting-edge technologies and Engineering best practices, you will share your knowledge within the team, and the wider business, to promote innovation and technical best practices. Designing, coding, testing and document complex software system change in order to deliver business value to the customer following agreed to standards and tools. Lead the review of system change work with others and contribute to the development and usage of associated standards and tools. Providing support and guidance as required, as well as advising individuals on career paths and encouraging pro-active development of skills and capabilities and mentoring to support professional development.
Accepting responsibility for the creation of test cases using own in-depth technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications while defining and managing the scope, required definition and prioritisation activities for small-scale changes and assisting with more complex change initiatives.
A bit about you
Having been in the ICT/Telecommunications for more than 5 years with a supporting Degree or related field with working experience in teams using Scrum or other agile practices. You will also have experience in several application development projects, including the development of requirements, use of source control, application design and software verifications.
You will be looking at the in-house application, so having strong DevOps would be a preference for this role, having strong knowledge of system architecture and security while having experience in Front and Back end applications like Airflow, Nifi, EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3 would be great.
The ideal candidate would also be able to showcase some of their software development projects/profiles on GitHub or any other related platform.
Having managed a small team or developed peers would be great to confirm that you have experience in software development and system integration experience in small team project environments that are contributing to the wider project delivery and upskilling of colleagues which indicates your leadership skills.
Nice to have but not compulsory for this role would be; having experience in automation framework for mobile apps such as Java, Appium, Gradle and protractor, experience in microservices such as Java 8, Junit, springboot, NodeJS, AWS SDK, oracle and firebase FCM. Polyglot software skills and being comfortable with operating across many languages and technologies and experience in back-end tools such as; Apache Kafka, oracle RDS, Splunk, Google Analytics +, Docker and Jenkins.
