Reporting to the Executive Manager – Network Architecture and Technology, this role forms part of the Network Engineering and Standards (NES) group under the Strat business unit of nbn. The Network Engineering and Standards group is accountable for technology planning, roadmaps, life cycle management, solution architecture, engineering consulting, vendor engagement, and product ownership for NES sponsored initiative, for the nbn network across Transit, FTTx, and HFC platforms for all active and passive components and element management functions. The Transit – Network Architecture and Technology domain consists of Ethernet Aggregation Network (EAN), Service Connectivity Network (SCN), Access Aggregation Switch (AAS), National Connectivity Network (NCN), Optical Transport, site Environment Manager (SeM), DC metering (DEM) and Regulatory Services.

 

Job purpose

The role of Senior Solution Architect – Routing & Switching, is to lead and be accountable for the technology plan, roadmaps, life cycle management, solution architecture, engineering consulting, vendor engagement, and be Product Owner for the NCN and Aggregation domain. You will ensure the optimum architecture is achieved for the Routing & Switching network, while ensuring all stakeholder requirements are adequately addressed. This role is also responsible for the day to day escalations for the NCN and Aggregation domain. The role is intended to have a key focus on the NCN.  

 

Key accountabilities:

1: Develop and maintain 24-month technology plan for the Routing & Switching domain

2: Develop and maintain 12-month roadmap and IOP plan for the Routing & Switching domain

3:  Ensure that the Transit sponsored IOP items for the Routing & Switching domain have portfolio EPIC created and prioritised for delivery through the SEO teams

4: Develop and maintain equipment life cycle management strategy for the Routing & Switching domain

5: Develop and maintain network solution architecture for the Routing & Switching domain

6: Provide capacity planning support for the Routing & Switching domain

7 Provide SME support as part of network engineering professional services for the Routing & Switching domain

8 Vendor management at the technical level for the Routing & Switching domain

9 Be the Product owner for the Routing & Switching technologies for the NES sponsored initiatives

10 Support new technology and platform evaluation in the lab environment. Support Transit Routing & Switching strategy development

 

Knowledge & Experience e.g. qualifications or indicative years of experience:

Extensive experience in Routing & Switching networks with a focus to IP/MPLS based Metro Ethernet and national IP networks

Extensive experience in IP and Ethernet networks solution architecture and design engineering

Demonstrated deep technical expertise in designing and building IP and Ethernet capability for Telco networks

Experience in designing Ethernet based products for both consumer and business market segments including MEF compliance.

Experience in solution integration with access technology domains such as FTTP/N/B/C, HFC, Satellite and Fixed Wireless

Experience in designing Management Infrastructure for Telco networks

Experience in wholesale network architectures

Experience of the operational considerations for Ethernet and IP networks

Liaison with Vendors to select appropriate network components and technologies for inclusion in solutions

Experience in solution development lifecycles in Telco environments

Experience in Security policy, process and architectures as applied to Wireless / Wireline networks

Design and implementation of network solutions to satisfy stakeholder requirements

Technical leadership experience in a solution delivery Telco or Service Provider environment

 

Practical/Specialist/Technical Skills: e.g. Keyboard, Software Distribution, etc.:

Demonstrated skills and experience in IP, MPLS, RSVP, LDP, LAG/MC-LAG, QoS (HPOL, HQOS), PBB, VPLS, VPWS, SOAM (IEEE 802.1ag and ITU-T Y.1731), OSPF-TE, BGP and ISIS

Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following – Nokia 7x50, Cisco ASR 9000 series

Experience in Nokia 5620 SAM/NFM-P, NSP or Cisco EPNM

Demonstrated knowledge of SDN-c in the context of network management solution

Demonstrated knowledge of IT/OSS integration of Routing & Switching network and EMS
