A bit about your role

In your new role as the Copper Access Network Specialist, you will be the subject matter expert of high-frequency signal transmissions over copper pair networks and will have a deep understanding of the history of the Australian copper network including: cables in the street and in the home, the way the cables connect together, copper network field practices and the theoretical basis for the kinds of faults that develop and their effects on DSL signals. • Provide consulting as a copper technology expert to internal and external stakeholders including (for example) providing expert assistance to nbn operations and field staff when diagnosing and fixing complex problems, providing expert assistance to nbn engineering teams when planning the configuration of new capabilities or technologies into the copper network.
  • Support development of solutions to optimise the performance and User Experience of nbn’s copper based access technologies including (for example) providing expert assistance to nbn customer experience teams for interpreting service behaviour and identifying technical root causes that influence customer experience.
  • Provide regular communication of learnings, strategies, and study outcomes internally, and externally as per nbn corporate communications strategy.
  • Work with leading minds in the broadband technology industry
  • Interact and share with the wider broadband technology community including vendors, network operators, international industry standards bodies and the research community.

A bit about you

You will have a sound theoretical understanding of broadband access technologies and how they work and (for example) would be able to explain vectored VDSL and G.fast to a colleague that has experience with wireless or HFC signalling.

You will have extensive prior experience with an equipment vendor or manufacturer or designer or a carrier and be skilled in architecture or technology development or support, design, testing and deploying technology in a carrier environment and you will have a strong appreciation of large-scale telecommunications plant rollouts.

To be successful in this role, you will have specific experience in broadband access network technologies in relation to the Australian or similar national twisted pair copper access network.

World-class verbal and high-quality written communication skills coupled with problem solving and the ability to build effective working relationships will be essential for the success of this role.
