RDE is a new business unit that has been created to lift the digital capability of regional Australian. A critical success factor in achieving the business unit’s objectives is driving operational performance and improved customer experience for regional customers. This requires close collaboration and management of our key partners (internal and external) to embed a customer-led mindset. To drive this change, RDE must work closely with partners and other nbn business units to ensure that RDE customer needs are well understood and decisions made across the business represent RDE interests while delivering business outcomes that align with RDE’s strategy.  Securing the required levels of support from all stakeholders (internal and external partners, Exxco and the Board, to Government and Regulators as required) will also be critical to the success of RDE.


There are two roles available within this space; Senior Manager: Partner Management - Satellite and Senior Manager: Partner Management - Fixed Wireless which are newly created roles position within the RDE: Partners and Performance team and has end-to-end accountability for working with key functional groups within nbn and our external vendors, to drive optimal service delivery and CX for RDE.  To meet nbn’s customer experience objectives, RDE needs to define and implement an engagement model and framework to improve facilitation and interlocks with NEO and external Satellite/ Fixed Wireless partners. The candidate/s coming into the Senior Manager: Partner Management – Satellite/ Fixed Wireless role will play a critical role in representing RDE business objectives to internal and external Satellite/ Fixed Wireless service delivery partners and ensuring that customer experience for regional Australia is taken into consideration across all service delivery aspects.

As a critical member of the GM: Partners and Performance Leadership Team, the successful candidate would be responsible for ensuring RDE objectives are met by key partners (NEO and external partners) and for driving Customer Experience (CX), innovation and thought leadership on areas of interest for RDE and will work closely with the EGM: FW/SAT and other senior stakeholders within the RDE Senior Leadership team, to ensure that the Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendor partnerships are managed in accordance with overall nbn strategy and deliver to nbn’s desired outcomes.


A bit about your role

The role is responsible for elevating requirements for input and endorsement from the RDE SLT as required, to facilitate decisions regarding key initiatives that are owned by Satellite/ Fixed Wireless partners (internal and external), and to ensure alignment with overall RDE strategy and objectives.

This role owns the Strategic Relationship Management and Operational Governance with key external Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendors. The successful candidate will be accountable for leading key improvement initiatives with key Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendors, leveraging the support of virtual teams across Network Engineering and Operations (NEO) and RDE.


Key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Partner Management - driving planning and operational performance through external vendors
  • Owns the Strategic Relationship Management and Executive Governance framework with key Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendors
  • Take the lead on any strategic initiatives that impact Satellite/ Fixed Wireless operations, working with internal and external teams to determine the best course of action for nbn
  • Leading key improvement initiatives across the Regional and Remote ecosystem
  • Manages the required interfacing into external Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendors which sits between Commercial (procurement) and Operational (BU) governance roles
  • Own and drive longer-term integrated planning with Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendors – future product roadmaps, capability roadmaps to ensure alignment of investment, resources and communication
  • Own and operationalise the engagement model for Satellite/ Fixed Wireless vendors, including a governance framework that reviews and optimizes systemic performance issues
  • Act as the initial senior management escalation point for persistent delivery issues prior to commercial contract intervention
  • Own and manage the integrated view on vendor performance and improvement plans, their status and progress


A bit about you

To be successful in this role, you would need to have exceptional senior stakeholder management, strong people management and team leadership skills as well as experience in working effectively within a matrix management structure where they will be required to influence and instruct individuals who are not direct reports to achieve desired outcomes. 

The role is expected to provide leadership and management support to the GM Partners and Performance, sharing some broader leadership and management responsibilities with the GM where appropriate.  This may include representing the GM where the GM is unavailable including in Senior Leadership Team meetings.

You would need to have obtained highly evolved problem-solving skills over the years of your career and have demonstrated the ability to communicate at all levels and to a wide range of stakeholders to bridge between customer experience and operational process and metrics across a complex delivery ecosystem in a fast-paced and technically complex environment.

Communication skills should be at a high standard as you would need to help guide business decisions and present high-level insights to confirm your case.

Having a working knowledge of the nbn corporate and network environment would be advantageous to your application. Must be able to build compelling business cases and secure executive sponsorships and approval.


The Successful candidate would have:

  • Extensive vendor management experience in an operational environment, preferably in the Telco industry
  • Extensive stakeholder management experience in a matrixed environment, working across cross-functional teams and suppliers
  • Operational experience in a large Telco, preferably in a deployment environment
  • Previous experience in senior management roles in Telecommunications/Utility industries
  • Experience in leading transformative change in a technically complex environment
  • Experience in the complex managed service operations, including procurement and establishing the new business capability for the telecommunications or IT environment
  • The ability to lead multiple virtual teams in the delivery of each of the programs of work
  • Highly developed senior stakeholder influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed leadership qualities to build teams and inspire through uncertainty
  • Tertiary level qualifications in Commerce / Business / Law / Engineering / IT or related discipline or relevant industry experience
  • Strong resilient leadership to overcome complex problems as they arise and to be able to lead professional teams through adverse situations
  • Data-driven individual
